Project Description:
The City of Austin Water Utility and Watershed Protection and Development Review Department needed assistance in restoring approximately 3,000 feet of streambank and revegetation along Upper Tannehill Creek. The creek bank instability occurred within the proximity of Bartholomew Park which has eroded over the year and has threatened wastewater lines and manholes as well as the park infrastructure and facility. Engineering consultants provided designs for mechanically stabilized earth to restore severely eroded channel slopes and failed revetments. The streambank stabilization included channel excavation, native grass seeding in the flood plain, native wetland seeding in the streambank, fabric encapsulated soil lifts, graded slopes, rock toe, rock grade control and drop structures, rock vanes, and a stilling basin. Cofferdams and site dewatering devices were also required in order to carry out the construction activities. A significant portion of the design objective was to replace approximately 1.5 miles of wastewater lines and 52 manholes.

Services Provided:
CAS, serving as an ACWP Project Manager, prepared a preliminary engineering report (Administrative Order Report) and construction cost estimates; reviewed engineering designs, hydraulic modeling, and construction plans and specifications; provided utility coordination; handled permitting and agency coordination; and oversaw final designs, specifications and construction activities. Construction cost estimates, change order, and resolution claims for all related improvements were also provided.
