Project Description:
The purpose of this project is to improve the sanitary sewer interceptor system in the Upper West Waller Creek basin. The system needed to be upgraded due to hydraulic capacity concerns, numerous sanitary sewer overflows and demands from the proposed redevelopment. The project scope includes the replacement of approximately 13,000 feet of sewer lines with diameters ranging from 6-inch to 24-inch. The construction activity will occur along residential streets and inside the creek. Bank stabilization is required in some parts of the creek.
A preliminary engineering report was required to:
- identify the best route alternatives
- determine the construction methodology (including trenchless options)
- optimize sewer’s size to serve the current and future capacity requirements
Collaborative efforts with City staff led to the development of the least environmentally intrusive route. This project is in the 90% design phase. The schedule and budget have met target goals to date. To reduce costs, the design featured maximizing open-cut in the City’s right-of-way. MBE/WBE team participation has been over 75% for the project.
