Description:
The City of Corpus Christi, Texas needed to perform a Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Survey (SSES) for portions of the Allison Wastewater Treatment Plant service area. The intent of the SSES efforts was to determine areas that are potentially impacting the sanitary sewer collection systems performance and to define where and when system maintenance should be directed.
The SSES study area contained approximately 206,167 lineal feet of 6 to 36-inch sewers and 600+ manholes. The work included conducting field investigations such as smoke testing, flow monitoring select locations, cleaning and closed circuit televising (CCTV) more than 22,000 lineal feet of sewers greater than 10-inches, manhole inspection, and establishing the manhole rim’s x and y coordinates using GPD and traditional surveying methods. The field work was closely coordinated with the City staff with daily notifications, especially crucial during the smoke testing task. The results of the SSES was presented in a Technical Memorandum that identified system defects; quantified recommendations to remedy the defects, estimated costs, and prioritized the defects into a system maintenance and rehabilitation plan.
Services Provided:
CAS Consulting & Services, Inc. was assigned to assist in the collection of the field data, review and document the smoke test, manhole inspection and CCTV data to identify potential I/I, overflow and system structural needs, and to recommend improvements. CAS also prioritized the work to allow the City of Corpus Christi to identify where and when best to upgrade their system. CAS is serving as a subconsultant to Earth Tech, Inc.
